Ambassador David Hales (Guyana)

An economist whose career spread over membership of Guyana’s foreign service and involvement in the integration efforts of the Caribbean. Twice assigned to the Embassy of Guyana in Brussels with priority given to facilitating the smooth implementation of development cooperation with the European Union and on promotion and defence of Guyana’s vital external trade interests. Extensive involvement in international trade matters while in the foreign service led to an appointment in the external trade division of the CARICOM Secretariat and subsequent confirmation as Director, External Trade, in the Directorate of Trade and Economic Integration. Appointed Ambassador of Guyana to the European Union and Belgium (2016-2021) and non-resident Ambassador to six other European countries.
